Its been MONTHS Since I last posted. IRL Life caught up real fast with me so today Ill keep this brief but detailed. Last June I traveled for 2 weeks to Manila for an emergency trip to see family. In … Continue reading
This is a long, long overdue post. Again hooray for IRL life getting in the way. And also a faulty old laptop that is still serving me in many ways.
Last 2016 I took a short trip back to the Philippines and spent a majority of those days in my home province of San Pablo Laguna.
Man, I LOVE Laguna. It is one of the biggest provinces in Luzon, has a vast eco tourism market from hot springs, private resorts, hiking trails, waterfalls, and not to mention the food.
San Pablo Laguna is about an hours drive away from Manila. I always loved featuring San Pablo in my travel posts because there are just so much to share about this beautiful city. I wanted to find a hidden gem similar like to the time I found Bato Springs. Also since we had a huge family reunion at my ancestral home, the lot of us would not fit in the Bukids small 3 bedroom shack (there’s about 15 of us).
I wanted to take my younger nieces away with me while the boys play. A quick google search brought my attention to Sulyap Café & bed and breakfast located in Barangay Del Remedio, just within the Cocoland Compound. Taking the local tricycle or jeepney commute is just about 10-15 minutes or less from the city proper. Continue reading
Since I am still working on a new BalikBayan Box article (I’m shipping a baby stroller!!) and other travel updates (I’m lazy editing the videos)
I decided that today Im doing an It’s Cheaper in the Philippines (Manila) Nov-2016 post Continue reading
This story starts with me wanting to ship a 27″ TV to the Philippines since Walmart and Best Buy had a pretty sweet deal for 24”-27” Flat screens under $140. I called my local Balikbayan cargo company like LBC to inquire about the electronics tax charge and sadly they are charging $50-100 tax fee on top of the shipping charges so that would be around $100-200.
Mind you the TV I’m planning to buy is around $99-110. That’s about less than PHP 5000. Supposedly as of October 2016 there is a new ACT that they are only to tax packages that are worth PHP 10,000 and up- no more than $210 as of Oct 2016 exchange rates Continue reading
In a years time I think I post a total of 2 articles per year in regards to Balikbayan Box and packaging.
I know it seems redundant but my reason for this is due the ever changing trends and price increase when it comes to sending balikbayan boxes home.
Todays post is a great example on why I always emphasize on making sure you secure your box and its contents properly based on my recent Philippine trip experience. Continue reading
This is just a quick update.
I’m scheduled to travel again to the Philippines in a few weeks so my time is more or less juggling work and prepping up for my trip. Which is great since I needed to take more video shots of the hotels I previously stayed last November being that my previous shots were unusable.
Normally I would get more than 5 months notice before I travel back home so I have time to send out a Balikbayan Box to our house in Manila. And on each time I always post an article on “How to Pack” and “Balikbayan Box Rates“. I also add a disclaimer to check with your local Balikbayan Box shippers to check any changes in rates and unfortunately as of November 2015 sea cargo rates for Southern California has gone up due to changes in Philippines Custom Clearance.
